Michele Cattani: Documentarist & Reporter

Michele Cattani: Documentarist & Reporter
I am Michele Cattani, a documentarist and photographer born in Reggio Emilia in 1991. After studying at the Monterrey Institute of Technology in Mexico and at the Polytechnic University of Turin, I obtained a master's degree in film and media engineering. In 2017 I made my first trip to Mali, where I lived for five years until settling in the Mauritanian capital of Nouakchott. In the Sahel, I have made several photo reportages and documentaries, mainly for the AFP Agence France Presse news agency, as well as for several international newspapers, television stations, NGOs and UN agencies.

As a photographer and audiovisual maker, I use these languages to better understand the context around me and to add complexity to my vision. My work is a way of putting others at the centre and pursuing stories that go beyond my own sphere of knowledge.

My photographic work requires complex logistics, having to operate in remote and unstable areas, characterised by long journeys by land, sea and air and extreme weather conditions. MAX Cases have proved indispensable for organising, transporting and protecting all the equipment needed for my reportages.
